This special concert, part of a national tour celebrating their upcoming September 2024 album release, will feature reimagined arrangements of tracks by Olivia Newton-John, Aunty Ruby Hunter, Missy Higgins, Sia, Kate Ceberano, Sarah Blasko, and others.

Adding a local touch to the Chatswood performance, the duo has invited community choir “With One Voice” to join them on stage for a song, creating a unique experience for North Shore audiences.

A Musical Partnership Spanning Two Decades

What began as a chance encounter at a festival has blossomed into a significant musical partnership between two of Australia’s most celebrated female artists. Their creative relationship spans 20 years and has earned them critical acclaim, including an ARIA Award for Best World Music Album for ‘Songs of the Latin Skies.’

Since formally collaborating as a duo in 2011, Schaupp and Noonan have released three albums together, including their ARIA-nominated ‘Songs of the Southern Skies,’ which featured distinguished guests like Iva Davies, Claire Bowditch, and Geoffrey Gurrumul Yunupingu.

The Australian newspaper has praised their collaboration, noting that “Katie Noonan has a voice like warm honey being decanted into melting snow. It is such a thing of beauty that finding a vessel to hold it can be difficult. Happily, in the music of acclaimed German-born classical guitarist Karin Schaupp, Noonan has found the perfect companion.”

The Bryson Set to Transform Chatswood with Modern Living Spaces

Chatswood is about to welcome a striking new addition to its skyline with the construction of The Bryson, a high-end apartment and commercial project led by Goldfields and built by ULTRA Building Co.

Chatswood’s Skyline to Evolve with Luxury Apartment Development

Chatswood is set for a major transformation as construction begins on The Bryson, a luxury apartment and commercial development in the heart of Sydney’s Lower North Shore. The project, led by national property developer Goldfields, will introduce a mix of high-end residences, office spaces, and retail areas, reinforcing Chatswood’s status as a thriving urban hub. Goldfields has appointed ULTRA Building Co to oversee construction, with the project expected to reach completion by late 2026.

A Vision for Chatswood’s Growth

Located on Anderson Street, The Bryson will offer residential, commercial, and retail space, catering to the growing need for modern, well-linked living in Chatswood. The development will feature a variety of apartment sizes, from one, two, and three-bedroom apartments to full-floor penthouses that are well-suited to city living in the present. All apartments will have high-quality finishes, open-plan living spaces, and access to premium shared facilities.

Goldfields’ purchase of Chatswood is the first step towards its long-term strategy to develop high-end mixed-use projects all over Australia. The company already has a good presence in Melbourne and Brisbane and is now trying to make an entry in Sydney’s competitive real estate market.

Designed for Community Living

Beyond its high-end residences, The Bryson is designed to enhance community interaction. The ground level will feature retail spaces, seamlessly blending into the existing Chatswood streetscape. Additionally, commercial office suites on the second and third floors will offer workspace options, catering to businesses looking to establish themselves in one of Sydney’s key economic centres.

Residents will have access to exclusive lifestyle amenities, including a rooftop pool, landscaped terrace, and barbecue areas, creating a communal environment within the development. These features aim to foster a sense of belonging while providing a tranquil escape in an otherwise bustling city environment.

Local Construction Expertise

ULTRA Building Co, with its track record of delivering quality residential developments such as Balmoral Collection in Mosman and 1788 Double Bay, has been selected to bring Goldfields’ vision to life. The company’s reputation for precision and reliability is underpinned by its 4-star iCIRT accreditation, a rating which reflects good transparency and building quality.

Strengthening Chatswood’s Future

The Bryson will have the added impact of generating economic activity in Chatswood by creating new work in the shape of construction alongside continued provision of retail and office space. It is one project within a current trend for city mixed-use schemes designed to house Sydney’s expanding population with a focus on delivering enhanced liveability and accessibility.

Due for completion in late 2026, The Bryson will reshape Chatswood’s residential skyline and provide modern living and commercial space for current and future residents.

Chatswood High’s Synthetic Field Deteriorates After One Year

The synthetic grass field at Chatswood High School is showing significant signs of deterioration just one year after installation, with synthetic grass field fragments spreading across the basketball court, gutters, and neighbouring streets.

Social media posts from concerned parents show soccer boots covered in loose plastic AstroTurf after single training sessions. One parent noted the poor field condition despite moderate weather, stating the oval’s deterioration was particularly concerning given its recent installation.

This local issue reflects a wider environmental problem across NSW, where 200 synthetic sports fields generate an estimated 252 tonnes of plastic waste annually, according to the UTS Institute for Sustainable Futures.

The NSW Chief Scientists office reported last year that rubber infill from such fields has been detected in state waterways. Their report highlighted several risks associated with synthetic turf including heat stress, pathogens, toxic chemicals, and microplastics.

Similar issues have been documented at Fraser Park in Marrickville and David Phillips Sports fields in Daceyville, where rubber crumbs from the fields are spreading into surrounding areas.

The rubber infill material has been banned in many European countries after being declared toxic. While Sydney’s Inner West Council has switched to cork infill for its sports fields, they maintain support for synthetic surfaces despite the environmental concerns.

The state government’s response to the Chief Scientists’ report is pending, as scientists advocate for a ban on rubber infill in synthetic turf.

Bridgestone Resubmits Chatswood Tower Proposal with Higher Ambitions

Bridgestone Projects has filed new plans for twin 33-storey mixed-use towers near Westfield Chatswood, revising a previously rejected proposal to include increased residential capacity and in-fill affordable housing.

Bridgestone Projects initially submitted plans for a high-rise development on Sydney’s Lower North Shore, but the Sydney North Planning Panel refused the application in September 2024. The main issue cited was excessive basement car parking, which was included in the gross floor area (GFA) calculation.

The revised application (SSD-75408008), now on exhibition through the NSW Planning Portal, addresses these concerns while increasing the scale of the development.

The Proposed Development: Key Features

Bridgestone’s updated plans seek to replace two older three-storey apartment buildings and townhouses on a 2687sq m site at 44-52 Anderson Street. The Make and Turner-designed project consists of:

  • A two-storey non-residential podium with commercial and retail spaces.
  • Two residential towers with 123 apartments, including 36 affordable housing units.
  • An eight-level basement with 296 car parking spaces.
  • Communal open spaces, featuring a swimming pool, sauna, BBQ area, and a green spine between the towers, designed by Turf Design Studio.
  • A pedestrian through-site link connecting Anderson Street and Cambridge Lane.

Planning Considerations and Chatswood’s Urban Growth

The proposed development aligns with the Chatswood CBD Planning and Urban Design Strategy 2026, which expands the CBD boundary northward to include the Bridgestone site. The project’s mixed-use nature supports urban densification while providing affordable housing options in a growing area.

Comparison with Other Recent Developments

Bridgestone’s revised proposal follows similar high-rise applications in Chatswood. Billbergia successfully overturned the rejection of its two-tower, 28-storey project on the Pacific Highway, which was initially filed in February 2024. Likewise, Willow Capital secured approval for its 26-storey tower after appealing Willoughby City Council’s initial refusal in the NSW Land and Environment Court in May 2024. These cases indicate a trend of developers successfully adjusting proposals to meet planning requirements and approval standards.

Community and Stakeholder Considerations

Public exhibition for the Bridgestone proposal runs from 31 January 2025 to 6 March 2025, allowing stakeholders and community members to provide feedback. The revised plan’s increased affordable housing component may improve public reception, addressing Sydney’s ongoing housing affordability challenges.

Next Steps and Project Timeline

As a State Significant Development, the proposal will undergo rigorous assessment before a final determination. If approved, Bridgestone Projects will proceed with detailed design, approvals, and eventual construction, contributing to Chatswood’s ongoing urban transformation.
