Geoffrey Adams’ Chatswood Art Exhibition at The Concourse

Chatswood art exhibition Alive in the Landscape brings a shifting, quietly engaging body of work to The Concourse this November. The exhibition opens on 4 November and runs until 15 November 2026. Entry is free, so locals can drop in without much planning.

The show presents landscape paintings by Geoffrey Adams, with birds and animals appearing within layers of colour and texture. At times, they stand out clearly. At other times, they are partly absorbed into the paint. That shifting presence gives the exhibition its interest. It also fits a show built around landscape, movement and change.

Landscapes with something hidden inside

According to the exhibition notes, Adams works in multiple layers of thin pigment and lets the paint run across the canvas in different directions. He paints flat, drips pigment from varying heights, then lifts and turns the work as it develops. The process is experimental, and the notes suggest it can produce unexpected results.

Some paintings take months to finish, with many glazes added over time. The event material says the method can involve chance as well as control. That is part of what shapes the final result. Each work can develop into something distinct, with textures and colour combinations that are not easily repeated.

Adams’ artist bio also places the work in a wider practice. He says he has been a practising artist for more than 35 years and studied painting at Sydney’s National Art School. He describes work across subjects such as inner-city bar scenes, chookyard landscapes, river scrub and mangroves. For his works, he says he uses sticks, knives and brushes, along with oil glazes, washes, drips and spatter. For watercolour and ink studies, he collects ochre pigments from different soils.

A local gallery worth stepping into

The Concourse gives this Chatswood art exhibition a central and practical setting. Art Space Gallery is on the ground floor of the building at 409 Victoria Avenue, Chatswood. That makes it easy to visit while already in the area.

The opening event is scheduled for Thursday 5 November, from 6 pm to 8 pm. The event listing says Mayor Tanya Taylor will open the show. That adds a civic note to an exhibition that is otherwise focused on the slower work of looking and noticing.

Alive in the Landscape seems likely to reward close attention. The paintings invite viewers to look again. A bird may emerge. A shape may fade back into the surface. A scene may appear to shift as the eye moves across it.

For a Chatswood art exhibition, that is a thoughtful offering. It gives local visitors something calm, layered and visually active, without making a fuss about it.
