Chatswood parents will get a timely look at future-ready kids this month, with a Business After Hours event focused on AI, coding and robotics. The Chatswood Chamber of Commerce has joined with STEMLOOK for the session at Dougherty Community Centre on 14 October.
The event, called “STEMLOOK: Raising Future-Ready Kids: AI, Coding, Robotics & Tomorrow’s Careers”, runs from 5pm to 6.30pm. It is free for members and non-members. Light refreshments will also be provided.
It feels like the sort of event that lands in the right place at the right time. Families are hearing more about technology at school, at work and everywhere in between. This one puts those conversations into a local room and gives them some shape.

Parents get the work talk, children get the workshop
The night is split in a way that makes sense. Parents will hear about employability, future professions and the growing role of AI, coding and robotics. Meanwhile, children will head into their own hands-on workshop.
That balance matters. It keeps the event practical and stops it from becoming a lecture. Parents can listen, think and ask questions. Children can stay busy building, coding and solving problems.
The presenters include STEMLOOK Robotics & Coding Educators, STEMLOOK director Anson Mak and Raman Kholupau from Thermo Fisher Scientific. Together, they will explore how technology skills are already shaping careers and industries.
Skills that reach beyond the screen
The session is also set to cover the skills behind the technology. Problem-solving, creativity, logical thinking, collaboration and persistence all feature in the program. Those skills matter because they travel well. They help in classrooms, workplaces and everyday life.

The event will also touch on AI literacy from an early age. That will strike a chord with plenty of families. Children are growing up around devices, apps and fast-moving digital tools. The bigger question is whether they are learning how to use them well.
That is where the future-ready kids idea starts to feel more useful than fashionable. It is not about chasing the latest gadget. It is about helping children become confident thinkers who can adapt as technology changes.
Robotics, coding and a final showcase
Children aged 8 to 12 will take part in an interactive robotics and AI workshop. They will build, code and work through a practical challenge with STEMLOOK. The evening will end with a short showcase, giving them a chance to present what they made.

That final moment should give the night a nice lift. Children usually enjoy showing their work. Parents usually enjoy seeing what their children can do when learning feels active and real.
Parking options are also available nearby. The council open-air car park sits next to the centre, while Westfield offers three hours of free parking. Limited street parking is also available on nearby streets.
So, for Chatswood families curious about where technology learning is heading, this looks like a worthwhile local night out. And for anyone thinking seriously about future-ready kids, it offers a practical place to start.
